Here are scripture and preaching for the 14th Sunday after Pentecost, Proper 19C, September 11, 2022.

This is a postscript to the sermon, an example of a free mind amidst menacingly capturing circumstances. Michael Jennings was watering his neighbor's flowers, a request of his neighbor.

Upon doing so, another neighbor called the police for his being a "suspicious person," the video of which encounter is here. He was a Black man in a largely white neighborhood. He also demonstrates clear knowledge of his rights, a resistance in complying to state overreach, and a sustaining of his humanity in face of dehumanizing circumstance.

This is what it is to be free in the Lord.
