To All You Saints

Updated: Nov 11

Here are worship materials for All Saints' Day, 2020.

Kandinsky, "All Saints," 20th c.

* Call to Worship Psalm 34 Adapted

One: I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.  All: My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.  One: O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together.  All: I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.  One: Look to him, and be radiant, so your faces shall never be ashamed.  All: This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord, and was saved from every trouble.  One: The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers them.  All: O taste and see that the Lord is good; happy are those who take refuge in him. One: O fear the Lord, you his holy ones, for those who fear him have no want.  All: The young lions suffer want and hunger,

but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

One: The Lord redeems the life of his servants;

All: none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

One: So it will be as it begins now in our greeting one another,

“The peace of the Lord be with you.”

All: And also with you.

Prayer of Invocation (in unison)

We thank You, O God, for the saints of all the ages; for those who, in times of darkness, kept the lamp of faith burning; for the great souls who saw visions of larger truth and dared to declare it; for the multitude of quiet and gracious souls whose presence has purified and sanctified the world; and for those known and loved by us, who have passed from this earthly fellowship into the fuller light of life with You.

And we pray You, O God, that we might be such people as these saints of old were: that during these trying times, our faith might endure; that during these days of increasing darkness and relating from a distance, our witness to your light and presence might prove resilient and sustaining; that we might be steadfast to You and one another that, when your Spirit ever returns to the world, wondering shall there be faith here, we might rise and stand all together, the embodiment of our answer, “Yes,” for our age and for every age hereafter.

Though we might despair, help us also to rejoice. Though we might grieve, help us also to rejoice. Though we might be lonely for one another, help us also to rejoice that your Spirit gathers us and holds us in bonds of love. Though we might fall away for a time, sustain this gathered body, which gives us life, through this time of separation to the time of fulfillment—a time that we’ll know for its pouring forth of gratitude and praise. In Christ we pray.Amen.
